Category:Liberal Unionist party[edit]
hello
I think you created the above category of political party. I was trying to place a politican into the liberal party, and as far as I can see he should go into the category 'Liberal Party (UK)', or perhaps rather into 'Category:Members of the Liberal Party of the United Kingdom, which itself should go into 'Category:Liberal Party (UK)'.. I don't see what the Category:Liberal Unionist party' is supposed to be, as distinct from simply 'liberal party'. confused. Sandpiper (talk) 23:08, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Sandpiper. The category was created for members of the Liberal Unionist Party, which split from the Liberal Party in 1886 and merged with the Conservative Party in 1912. Hope that helps, mattbr 07:19, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
Douglas Hurd photo[edit]
The photo File:Douglas Hurd, November 2007.jpg is used on several lists. Because of this, would you mind cropping the image to remove some of the space on Hurd's left side (i.e. the right-hand side of the photo from the viewer's perspective)? This would increase its symmetry and make the image more portrait-shaped, which would help its use in lists. Many thanks. BartBassist (talk) 12:49, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hi BartBassist, please find a cropped version at File:Douglas Hurd, November 2007 cropped.jpg. mattbr 20:51, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
File:Jackie_Ashley,_September_2009.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Hello, In desperate need of your help.[edit]
Hello, I didn't know what else to do so I've ended up here. I was wondering if I could possibilly have your email to explain my situation as it's rather long and complicayted. For the record I used to have an account on Wikipedia but that was ripped away from me by a couple of the various bureaucrats who treat Wikipedia like heir own personal principality. My email is tom.june13@gmail.com for the record and like I said am in much/eager need of your help. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee help me, please bare in mind I'm another human being (some seem to conveniently forget that in my experience) But I will check this in a day or two in the hope that you've had a chance to reply. Many thanks in advance 2A00:23C4:6F12:1100:516E:5ABF:8A6:EB49 15:22, 25 July 2018 (UTC) (AKA Tom)
Just a heads up. The template definition page says
- The template automatically sets the following categories: Depending on namespace:
- Category:Media with locations (for files)
- Category:Galleries with coordinates (for galleries)
- Category:Categories with coordinates (for categories)
It's useful to keep because (a) it provides a sanity check against Wikidata coordinates, which are often inaccurate and (b) can provide a local scale so that you don't have to zoom in from some ridiculous POV. Cheers. Rodhullandemu (talk) 13:33, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
- The template, however, doesn't add the category above to the category and instead an error category was being added in this instance. Wikidata Infobox automatically adds two categories Category:Pages with maps and Category:Uses of Wikidata Infobox with maps. Please could I suggest that if you think the coordinates on Wikidata are inaccurate or at the wrong scale please update them, by fixing them on Wikidata you fix them in all other places which use the same information. mattbr 13:57, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi Mattbr,
I just received an email noting a copyright violation on Γιώργος Λ. Σαββίδης/George L. Savvides photo. Kindly note that the owner of the photo is a colleague of us by the name Stavros Ioannides and he has given to us permission to use it.
Saying this, can you please upload the photo again?
My knowledge on Wikipedia is limited, so ant advice will be highly appreciated.
Thanking you, Maria —Preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.50.102.157 (talk) 22:13, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- Please can you follow the instructions at Commons:OTRS – this will require the copyright holder to send a permission statement to the email address listed on that page. There is an example permission statement given on that page and please send them a link to the file that has been deleted. They will be able to arrange undeletion for you. Sorry for the inconvenience, but Commons respects the rights of copyright holders so it would be appreciated if valid permission could be provided. mattbr 22:44, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
Johannes Mario Simmel Portrait[edit]
Hello, I have got your message about the potential copyright violation of the portrait of J. M. Simmel. Could you please check whether my decision to public the picture was right after the following answers:
My question to the Bavarian Broadcasting was: Can I publish a screenshot of Mr Simmel which I made ...
The answer 24.6.20: Sehr geehrter Herr Holzwarth, vielen Dank für Ihre Anfrage.
Sehr geehrter Herr Holzwarth,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johannes_Mario_Simmel
Beim Klick auf das Foto sieht man im neuen Fenster die Quelle desselben...Vielleicht kann man Ihnen dort weiterhelfen?
Herzliche Grüße
Markus Röleke
... My layperson's conclusion was: At least no objections. Is it a violation under these circumstances?
If yes: What do you think of the idea of transfering the picture from the English wikipedia?
Thank you for your efforts and kind regards.

- @Moospolster: Please can you follow the instructions at Commons:OTRS – this will require the copyright holder of the image/video in question to send a permission statement to the email address listed on that page to confirm the image can be published using a license compatible with Commons. There is an example permission statement given on the OTRS page and when emailing OTRS please send them a link to the file that has been deleted. They will be able to arrange undeletion for you if they are satisfied that the copyright holder has released the image under a compatible license. File:Gen Szymon Kurz (jpeg).jpg, is a derivative work.[edit]
Hi, I've just received your message regarding the file that I uploaded on 23 Feb 2017: File:Gen Szymon Kurz (jpeg).jpg, is a derivative work.
I am not very computer literate and am struggling to edit the website with the information that you require and would be most obliged if you could please do this for me.
The file is a copy of an original photograph taken by my father some time before 1939 and kept in the family album.
Kind regards EdekK — Preceding unsigned comment added by EdekK123 (talk • contribs) 15:35, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
- @EdekK123: Sorry, copyright rules can be complicated. Please can you advise:
- The name of the person who took the photograph
- The year the photographer died
- The year the photograph was taken
- If the photographer was Polish
- It should then be possible to determine the copyright status. Further information is at Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Poland and {{PD-Poland}}. mattbr 09:53, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
Autopatrol given[edit]
Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, the possibility to overwrite files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 01:02, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
Delete ALL[edit]
Hi man,
Please destroy all my remaining files, logo, photo, everything.
I don't want to waste my time on Wikipedia anymore. There is an incredible lack of judgment. It's like on stackoverflow.com, amateurs destroy very well done posts! Knowledge is lost because the ignorant have too much power. Everything I've written since 2008 on Wikipedia has been destroyed. Am very happy besides not to have added more landscapes which are now found everywhere on the Web without any respect for the rights. Hey! Even on Chinese sites!
Thank you and have a nice day! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oznog (talk • contribs) 14:44, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
Hornbach Holding logo[edit]
Hi Mattbr. Apparently, you uploaded the logo for Hornbach Holding AG back in December. They have since changed their logo by taking out the letters "AG". https://www.hornbach-holding.de/de/index.html Would be great if you were able to update that. I can't as I am working for a company dealing with PR, and therefore conflicted. Thanks a lot! Tom TLevine64 (talk) 06:54, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
