Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Salut, en fait c'est un outil en développement chez Google (Google Lab), pour le moment c'est seulement possible de faire d'abord un recherche d'image puis ensuite chercher les images smilaires. I accidently noticed you edit when browsing around, but blanking the page with the editsummary "out of scope" is not the right way to do this. I'd like to strongly recommend to use the {{speedy}}-template and add it on top of the page. Like this:

Das ist Ok, aber wenn es schneller gegen soll, kannst Du einfach den "nominate for deletion"-link in Deiner "Tool-box" benutzen. Außerdem gibt es ein Gadget, Quick Delete, das es erleichtert Copyvios und Bilder ohne Quelle od. Lizenz zu kennzeichnen und die Uploader zu benachrichtigen. Avant de te lancer dans les effacements de page, protections de page, blocages de compte ou modifications de pages protégées, il n'est pas inutile de relire attentivement la page Commons:Administrateurs et de placer dans ta liste de suivi les pages s'y rapportant (notamment Commons:Administrators' noticeboard, Commons:Demandes de suppression). La plupart des actions d'administrateurs sont réversibles par les autres sysops, à l'exception des fusions d'historiques qui doivent donc être traitées avec précaution.

Il est possible de discuter directement avec d'autres admins sur IRC : #wikimedia-commons @ irc.freenode.net. Il existe également un canal dédié aux admins de Commons, qui peut être utile pour les sujets sensibles ou la coordination entre administrateurs : #wikimedia-commons-admin.

Tu peux également rejoindre #wikimedia-admin, le canal de coordination inter-wiki pour les administrateurs Wikimedia. Demande à n'importe quel channel operator de t'accorder une dispense d'invitation (alternativement n'importe qui sur le canal peut t'y inviter temporairement). Tous les admins de tous les projets y sont bienvenus.

Je viens d'aller voir ses albums pour compléter les articles consacrés à Rennes, et tout est (à nouveau) sous licence propriétaire, y compris ce que tu as déjà uploadé.

What kind of thing? A simple electronic device?. Please, I know it's your PNG and all, but you shoudn't revert my edits just because you don't like the svg. I will not revert your edit ultil you send me a response. I'm not saying that you "copied" my design, but it looks like it wasn't so ugly at all.

Mac Os X / Aqua titlebar

Hi, I have been pointed in your direction as an expert on the matter. I have one simple question, is the Mac OS X title bar copyrighted/copyrightable? There seem to be images of it around that are tagged as free, others as copyrighted and under fair use: w:File:Appleterminal2.png is tagged as used under fair use, while File:Firefox5 Mac OS X.png, File:Firefox 10 on Mac OS X.png, File:Firefox 3.0.10 Mac OS X FIN.png, File:Firefox 8 on Mac OS X.png is tagged as under MPL, File:VandalFighter3.4-Mac OS X.png, File:Rkhunter on Mac OS X.png under GPL, File:Xload screenshot-Mac-OS-X.xcf is asserting copyright on it as releasing it under CC-3 unported etcetera. Category:Mac OS X screenshots is not much help as it refers to "should not contain any visible elements of the operating system itself" which to my mind means the title bar too... Commons:Screenshots#Software on the right points out that XFCE's title bar is copyrighted and licensed under GPL and specifically suggest using a free OS to avoid these licensing problems. If it is indeed the case that those are copyrighted, then there's a whole lot of screenshots to delete at Category:Mac OS X screenshots if not, the screen shot page and the category should probably be re-written. J'ai importé ce fichier cependant j'ai été mal informé et l'image ne porte pas le bon titre. J'ai donc renommé la page mais ça n'a pas changé le nom, est-ce qu'il vous serez possible de vous en occuper, merci ?

Wiki Loves Monuments France 2019

Bonjour,

Le concours Wiki Loves Monuments France est de retour et ouvert jusqu'à 31 septembre ! Déjà 8310 photos ont été importés cette année, vous aussi rejoignez le concours !

Le concours concerne tous les monuments présents dans la base Mérimée (qu'ils soient classés, inscrits ou simplement classés). De l'imposant château aux ruines industrielles, de la chapelle au coin de la rue aux mégalithes en forêt, c'est un impressionnant patrimoine qui attend d'être photographié et documenté. Où que vous soyez il y a des monuments autour de chez vous. Enfin, vous pouvez mettre en ligne autant de photos que vous le souhaitez de ces monuments. Pour information, le règlement est disponible sur le site du concours. Nous attendons vos photos avec impatience !

Les plus belles photos seront sélectionnées par un jury national composé d'amateurs et de professionnels, de contributeurs à Wikimedia Commons et d'acteurs du patrimoine. Un jury international sélectionnera ensuite des meilleures photographies mondiales.

Si vous avez des questions, l'équipe organisatrice se fera un plaisir d'y répondre.

Le concours Wiki Loves Monuments France est ouvert pour une semaine encore, jusqu'au 30 septembre. Déjà plus de 6 000 photos ont été importées cette année alors vous aussi rejoignez le concours ! Cette campagne de contribution concerne tous les monuments et objets mobiliers présents dans la base Mérimée et dans la base Palissy. De l'imposant château aux ruines industrielles, de la verrière décorative au reliquaire, c'est un impressionnant patrimoine qui attend d'être photographié et documenté. Vous pouvez dès à présent mettre en ligne autant de photos que vous le souhaitez de ces monuments et objets du patrimoine français. Nous attendons vos photos avec impatience !
